Community West Foundation Awards $967,434 in First Quarter Grants

[Westlake, Ohio] – The Community West Foundation Board of Directors approved $785,334 in first quarter grants to nonprofit agencies that are located in Cleveland, Western Cuyahoga and Lorain Counties.  An additional $182,100 was distributed through their Community Impact Fund bringing the grand total to $967,434.  The Community Impact Fund was established for donors who want to invest alongside Community West’s mission knowing that contributions would be distributed directly to grantees quarterly.  
For the first quarter, Community West Foundation provides grants to nonprofits that provide hunger prevention and assistance for refugees and immigrants. 
Organizations receiving grants include:
Cuyahoga County:
  • Americans Making Immigrants Safe – Assists immigrants and families with resources for legal services, education, basic living expenses, and self-sufficiency
  • Building Hope in the City, Hope Center – Hub for refugees and immigrants to receive services such as family mentorship, employment support, immigration counsel, after-school enrichment and tutoring.
  • Building Hope in the City, Hope Commons Phase II – Construction of low-income housing in the Stockyard neighborhood
  • Camp Imagine – Daily academic summer camp for children with special needs
  • Catholic Charities Migration and Refugee Services – Refugee resettlement agency that also provides legal services for refugees and immigrants
  • Fund for Our Economic Future - Collaboration of philanthropic funders and civic leaders supporting economic growth in the region
  • Greater Cleveland Food Bank’s Community Resource Center – One-stop shop for community members where they can find healthy food, more than a dozen social services agencies, and a variety of resources such as housing, employment, and health care access under one roof
  • Hunger Network – Largest provider of emergency food in Cuyahoga County
  • Joshua and Caleb Leadership Center – Mentorship program for at-risk youth and their mothers 
  • Re:Source Cleveland (formerly Refugee Response) - Programs and services for resettled families 
  • St. Augustine Community Cupboard and Pantry – Food pantry and clothing assistance for people in need
  • Schindler Assistance Fund – Fund established at Community West Foundation to provide grants to church-based programs that assist disadvantaged individuals and families
  • Smart Development – Provides support and resources to newcomers in Cleveland
  • Society of St. Vincent de Paul - Hunger centers that offer emergency food supplies, hot meals and other necessities
  • The Littlest Heroes – Provides financial and emotional support to needy families who have a child living with cancer
  • Trials for Hope - Distributes food and basic needs to individuals struggling due to food or financial insecurity
  • U.S. Committee for Refugees & Immigrants – Refugee resettlement agency that also provides legal services and wellness services for refugees and immigrants
  • Village Project – Provides food to families who have a family member undergoing cancer treatment
  • West Shore Meals on Wheels – Hot meal delivery to home-bound seniors
  • West Side Community House – Provides programs and services to the most vulnerable youth, families and seniors
  • Youth Bee Works – Raises awareness of the importance of honeybees for our food systems 
Lorain County:
  • Beyond the Walls Church – Food distribution services located in Elyria
  • Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Ohio – After school meal and enrichment programs for at-risk youth
  • El Centro de Servicios Sociales – Provides essential social, educational, cultural, and community development services in Lorain
  • Oberlin Weekday Community Meals – Christ Episcopal Church offers evening meals and community engagement Monday through Friday for low-income individuals and families 
  • Second Harvest Food Bank – Regional food bank serving Lorain County that acquires, gathers and distributes nutritious food 
  • Solidarity Urban Farms – Located in Lorain, they provide produce to Second Harvest Food Bank for distribution
