Schindler Assistance Fund

Community West Foundation supports programs at places of worship that help disadvantaged individuals and families by offering community meals, food pantries, clothing and more. The Schindler Assistance Fund, named in honor of Senior Grantmaker Peter Schindler for his 27 years of dedicated service to the Foundation, is designed to benefit these "hidden helpers" in our community.

Please see the details below for qualifications and application instructions.

Who Can Apply

Places of worship located within Western Cuyahoga County and Lorain County that offer programs that help disadvantaged individuals and families are eligible to apply. Applicants must hold a current tax-exempt status as a public charity under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

How to Apply

Contact us at [email protected] to inquire about applying. Because the fund is limited, applications are invite-only.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year and until grant funds are exhausted. Organizations will be notified of funding decisions via email within four weeks of receipt of the application.

Additional Information

How much support can be requested?
Schindler Assistance Fund grants range from a minimum of $250 to a maximum of $2,500. Organizations may request one grant per year.

If a grant is received, what is an organization’s responsibility to the Community West Foundation?
Your place of worship must spend the funds for the intended purpose. Community West Foundation asks that you report on the project with information about the number of people served within 12 months of receiving the grant. We also ask that any publicity concerning the grant makes mention of Community West Foundation Schindler Assistance Fund. Please share a copy of any publicity with us.
