New Beginnings at The Centers/WSEM

In 2011, two leading social service agencies - WSEM (West Side Ecumenical Ministry) and The Center for Families and Children - merged and changed their name to The Centers. By combining their talents and resources, they are able to provide a broader range of services more efficiently.

One of the programs that will remain as a separate and distinct WSEM Program is their Food Centers at three locations on Cleveland’s west side. Community West Foundation offered $25,000 to cover operational expenses for all three centers. While we have sponsored WSEM events for many years, this is the first time that we have given grant funding directly to the agency for its food centers.

In 2012, WSEM served more than 30,108 people with three days of meals, for a total of 270,972 meals. WSEM also delivered hundreds of meals to homebound and disabled and/or elderly individuals throughout the city. We are pleased that our funding will help keep this much needed program vibrant.
