Seeds of Literacy

Did you know 66 percent of Cleveland residents are considered functionally illiterate? These residents have difficulty with daily tasks of reading utility bills, using a bus schedule, understanding directions for taking medication and completing job applications that could lead to gainful employment. In fact, adults with a GED can earn $1 million more in their lifetime! Seeds_of_Literacy.jpg

Our community is very fortunate to have an organization dedicated to improving the literacy skills of those in need. Seeds of Literacy is the only nationally accredited literacy program in Ohio. Community West Foundation provides funding for the organization's Empowerment Through Education Program. Last year, the agency served over 1,000 students, 75 percent of whom live at or below the Federal Poverty Level.

Seeds of Literacy helps its students take the necessary first steps toward becoming independent and self-sufficient members of our community.
