The Community West Foundation Board of Directors approved $580,000 in fourth quarter grants to non-profit agencies that are located in Cleveland, Western Cuyahoga and Lorain Counties. An additional $156,000 was distributed through their Community Impact Fund bringing the grand total to $736,000. The Community Impact Fund was established for donors who want to invest alongside Community West’s mission knowing that contributions would be distributed directly to grantees quarterly. Organizations receiving grants this quarter include:
Cuyahoga County:
- Cleveland Angels: Only organization in Northeast Ohio providing volunteer, community support to fostering families to ensure healthy, affirming, and lasting relationships
- Cleveland Hearing & Speech Center: Provides basic needs assistance and case management services for deaf individuals including financial assistance, vocational rehabilitation, domestic and sexual violence support and advocacy, and American Sign Language classes
- Community of Hope: Creates communities and a sense of belonging for homeless youth and young adults who age out of foster care without a family; links youth to mental health services, job programs, school tutoring, GED courses, and parenting support
- Far West Center: Only community mental health center dedicated to Western Cuyahoga and Lorain County; provides art therapy and recovery programs for individuals, families, and postpartum mothers, and mental health prevention programs for seniors
- Fostering Hope: Provides engaged mentors to support youth as they transition from foster care to adulthood through community involvement, trauma-informed health and wellness, and childhood experiences
- Journey Center for Healing: Serves those affected by child abuse and domestic violence through a 24-hour helpline, emergency domestic violence shelter, trauma services, and the Justice System Advocacy Program
- Koinonia: Serves individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and other complex conditions through licensed group homes, supported and shared living arrangements, respite care and transportation services
- Lakewood Community Services Center: Provides bi-monthly home delivery of food to low and extremely low-income clients in Lakewood, Rocky River, and Westlake
- Malachi Center: Provides community-based reentry services and after care for youth and young adults involved with the criminal justice system using individual and group mentoring and case management
- May Dugan Center: Addresses inequities in access to health care, food, and living wages through behavioral health and basic needs services, MomsFirst and Seniors on the Move programs, and their Trauma Recovery and Education Resource Centers
- Mental Health & Addiction Advocacy Coalition (MHAC): Fosters education and awareness of mental health and addiction issues while advocating for public policies and strategies that support effective services, systems, and supports for those in need
- Nueva Luz Urban Resource Center: Provides people living with HIV/AIDS with wraparound services including housing assistance, legal aid, addiction recovery, and food programs to address the root causes and impacts of systemic poverty
- Scranton Road Ministries: Works to break the cycle of poverty through a legal clinic, academic enrichment center, and youth jobs partnership
- Seeds of Literacy: Improves lives through literacy by providing one-to-one adult education and GED tutoring in physical classrooms and online
- St. Paul’s U.C.C. Community Outreach: Meets near west side residents’ needs through food pantry, hygiene, and basic medical support, phone access, and clothing ministry; provides medical information, bus tickets, vouchers for birth certificates and IDs, and shelter site referrals; serves as an overflow men’s shelter
- West Side Catholic Center: Provides food, clothing, shelter, job training, rent subsidies, and case management through their Resource Center, Workforce Development Program, Moriah House shelter, the Family Engagement Program, Zacchaeus Housing Solutions, Ohio City Pizzeria, Culinary Academy, and Family Success Network
Lorain County:
- Avon/Avon Lake Community Resource Services: Provides short-term assistance and connections to financial literacy, health and wellness, education, and job training programs
- El Centro de Servicios Sociales: Serves Latino residents of Lorain County through programs in community health and supportive services, community development, money management, and youth leadership
- Let’s Get Real: Provides direct peer support services that remove barriers to addiction recovery by connecting individuals with resources and services
- North Ridgeville Community Care: Provides utility and housing assistance, senior outreach, and household essentials to North Ridgeville residents
- Oberlin Community Services: Serves the community through food access, emergency assistance, and resiliency programs; conducts food rescue, food distribution, and food delivery
- The Nord Center: Provides case management, counseling, psychiatry, vocational services, residential services, emergency stabilization, mental health crisis hotline, crisis and support services for adult and child survivors of sexual assault, homelessness prevention, on-site pharmacy services, and substance abuse treatment
- The Road to Hope: Provides housing to men, women, and families recovering from substance abuse
