Helping Refugees and Immigrants Start a New Life
Cleveland is home to an increasing number of refugees and immigrants who have been uprooted from their homelands to flee persecution, torture, violence and even death.
Community West Foundation provided $40,000 for two agencies that make it easier for our new neighbors to adjust to life in a new country.
The Refugee Response Program cares for refugees from six nations – Burma, Bhutan, The Congo, Senegal, Iraq, and Somalia. Refugee Response works to help these refugees brought here by the government and Catholic Charities, which only support them for up to six short months.
The Refugees Response Program works closely with Asian Services in Action. We provided funding to this agency also, to help meet the needs of newcomers at various locations – everything from emergency food to language skills to how to access health care.
